Grayslake Youths Turn Garage into Haunted House

This is the fourth year that a group of Grayslake young people have created their free haunted house. The community is invited to check it out on Halloween night.

If watching spooky movies isn't enough for you on this Halloween night, take a drive over to 1414 Lancaster Court in Grayslake's English Meadows between 4 and 10 p.m. for a real scare, created by a talented group of young people.

This is the fourth year for the haunted house. Turning Matt Walker's garage into a den of fright has become an annual neighborhood tradition, said friend and co-creator Nikki Sparks.

"Each year we make a completely new design and it gets bigger and better. We went all out this year spending well over $600 on supplies to build it."

The same group of young people have created the haunted house every year. They are: Daniel Linsenmeyer, David Sparks, Jenny Sparks, Kevin Sparks, Nikki Sparks, Scott Sparks and Matt Walker.

It took the group three months to prepare for and build the haunted house, which has an "Outbreak/Zombie" theme.

Walker's garage is divided into three areas--Zombie/Apocalypse, the Slenderman and the ever-so-scary Clown.

"We do this to make Halloween a memorable time and to let trick-or-treaters and whoever else enjoy it, and of course get a good scare," said Nikki.

She warns: "Don't be fooled. This is no ordinary homemade haunted house. With years of past experience, this is by far the greatest and is sure to exceed anyone's expectations!"

The free haunted house is open tonight from 4 to 10 p.m.

Happy Halloween!
