Libertyville High School Athletes of the Week

Luke Mathewson, Alex Haley, and Austin Pettinato honored as top athletes in Libertyville this week.

Alex Haley, Girls Basketball. Haley scored 20 points Wednesday to lead the team to a 47-32 victory over Vernon Hills in the NSC Championship Game. Defensively, Haley limited Vernon Hills' top player to only five points. The girls basketball team will open the IHSA Regionals next Tuesday at 6:00p.m. at Libertyville High School vs. either Round Lake or Wheeling. Libertyville High School

Luke Mathewson, Boys Basketball.  Mathewson had 11 points and 8 rebounds in the Libertyville High School win over Stevenson, including the go ahead three pointer in the closing minutes of the game. Mathewson has also signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of North Dakota. The boys basketball team will be in action again on Friday, Feb. 10 at Mundelein.

   Austin Pettinato, Wrestling. Pettinato won the IHSA Regional this past weekend at 145 pounds. Pettinato won the championship displaying his mental and physical toughness, since he sprained his ankle during the match. Pettinato will be wrestling again today and Saturday at the IHSA Sectionals at Barrington.
