MainStreet Libertyville to Host 'Let's Wine About Winter' Event
The annual wine walk is set for Feb. 16.
Maybe you're looking for a fun post-Valentine's Day activity to do with your significant other. Or perhaps you want to have a "girls' day out." Or maybe you just want to check out all that Libertyville has to offer.
No matter the reason, MainStreet Libertyville's annual "Let's Wine About Winter" wine walk seems like the place to be.
The wine stroll, which drew about 1,200 people last year, is slated for 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 throughout downtown Libertyville. For just $25, participants will receive a glass, a map of where to sample various wines and a $10 merchant coupon that can be used on a return visit.
Registration in advance is not required; participants need only stop at one of the five distribution sites the day of the event to pay the $25 fee, get a wristband, and receive a glass and map, said Pam Hume, executive director of MainStreet Libertyville.
"It's a great event. People seem to just really enjoy it," she said. "Serve wine, they will come."
"Let's Wine About Winter," Hume said, is a great way for people to taste a variety of wines and see what Libertyville has to offer. While the list of participating businesses is still being finalized, Hume said 30 businesses participated during last year's event.
"It's just a lovely afternoon of shopping and wine tasting," said Hume. "Everybody's always in high spirits. It's just a lot of fun. It's a down time of year (and) people are anxious to get out of the house."
The five distribution sites will be: Christine Anne Couture, 324 N. Milwaukee Ave.; Parkview Gourmet, 121 E. Cook Ave.; Petranek's Pharmacy, 426 N. Milwaukee Ave.; Curtis Frame/Back Alley Gallery, 543 N. Milwaukee; and North Shore Pro-Active Health, 112 W. Lake St.

This is one of my favorite events, thank you Mainstreet and businesses for putting this together for our community. Each year it gets better! Looking forward to sampling some wonderful wines.
Laurie, sadly Parkview remains closed. I have not been downtown since the holidays and it seems two more businesses have closed as well. Very sad. It is my goal to shop even more frequently downtown this year.

Sorry, but I hate this event. I think it's irresponsible to promote alcohol. In the past, I've had to dodge people running across Milwaukee with their wine glasses in hand - because they're either too wasted or too lazy to use the crosswalks. I avoid the downtown all day. And how do these people get home....after a fun filled afternoon of drinking? They drive, duh! Is the Mainstreet organization liable if there's an accident? They should be. If Mainstreet was smart...they'd put on a Winter Carnival that had no alcohol and would be kid friendly.

Love this event! Most of us are responsible adults who arrange for a taxi or designated driver during this event. By the way they are not full glasses of wine either, they are more like wine tastings, so not sure how wasted you could really get!

The fact that you say "most of us are responsible" says it all....what about the ones that aren't....10/12 tastings add up to 2/3 glasses...adds up to drunk driving. It's not something a town should be promoting. And it's an accident waiting to happen.

It's a great event, responsibly organized and I imagine the extra tax revenue to the Village of Libertyville is a plus not to mention that the MainStreet Organization gets a donations to be able to put on even more village events. Most communities don't have these events. Any Saturday driving on Milwaukee Avenue can be a bit treacherous.

This is the best event all year long. It brings more business to the downtown that day and bring people to stores they might not normally go into and then become repeat shoppers. It is NOT meant for kids. There are a dozen kid friendly events every year. This is the ONE that is not. So take your kids to Chuckie Cheese and we'll carry on a GREAT community event the build not only WELL NEEDED business for our donw town but a great memory of friends and community as well.

I love this event! I love seeing all the customers in our stores and all the activity in our beautiful downtown. Pam Hume and Jeff McClurg do a great job at Mainstreet. and the restaurants are packed after this soooo they are eating! Can't wait. Adler and Butterfield just had two great fun fairs. This is for adults. Stay home Janet!

Wow, that's keeping it friendly Lisa! When I said carnival...I was thinking along the lines of the one in St. Paul. There could be outdoor skating in Cook Park, there could be snow themes in all the stores, cocoa for kids/grownups, food, etc. And I love your comment that everyone goes out to restaurants afterwards...to what, sober up? Doubt it! But I'll follow your instructions...and stay home.
