MBX Systems Collecting Items for Hurricane Sandy Victims

The collection drive is being held through Dec. 12. Want to help? Read on!

Libertyville-based technology manufacturer MBX Systems is sponsoring a drive for donations to two charities to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy. The company will be collecting supplies requested by the two charities through Dec. 12 in a 53-foot semi-trailer parked at the company’s headquarters at 1200 Technology Way (just south of the Libertyville Township Soccer Complex
off Winchester Road).

Donations will be distributed by Catholic Charities Community Services, Staten Island, and Gerristen Beach Cares, Brooklyn. Staten Island and Gerristen Beach are two of the neighborhoods that suffered the greatest damage during the storm that devastated the eastern seaboard in October. The charities requested:

  • Muck-out and safety supplies, including industrial-contractor grade refuse bags, N95 face masks, fire extinguishers, and smoke/CO2 detectors with batteries.
  • Cleaning supplies, including shovels, rakes, brooms, work gloves and disposable gloves.
  • Toiletries and pharmaceuticals, including Tylenol and Advil.
  • Baby supplies, including diapers, wipes, and baby food and formula.
  • Clothing, including hats, gloves and socks.
  • Miscellaneous items, including can openers, batteries, and disposable cameras with flash.

Donations are being accepted at MBX headquarters Monday through Friday through Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., as well as on Saturday Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The truck, which can hold 26 pallets worth of goods, will depart from Libertyville on Dec. 13 and drop off the supplies at locations designated by the charities. Transportation costs are being donated by MBX Systems.

MBX will also accept and forward financial donations with checks payable to Catholic Charities Community Services, Staten Island, or Gerristen Beach Cares, Brooklyn. Both charities are classified as 501(c)(3) organizations, and contributions are tax deductible as provided by law.
