UPDATE: Man Killed in Train Versus Pedestrian Incident Identified

Accident occurred east of Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville.

Update, 4:32 p.m.:

Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey identified the man killed by a train in Libertyville late Wednesday night as 47-year-old Michael Kenny of the 30000 block of North East End Avenue, Libertyville.

Yancey said Kenny was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. He died of multiple traumatic injuries, Yancey said.

The incident is still under investigation.

"At this point, we have pretty much ruled out any type of foul play," said Yancey.

Libertyville Police said the accident occurred on the Metra tracks just east of Milwaukee Avenue.

Update, 8:46 a.m.:

Metra Spokesman Tom Miller confirmed that a person was killed during a train versus pedestrian incident at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Miller said the incident occurred near the station.

The train was delayed for about two hours, he said. Passengers on that train, along with others that were subsequently delayed, remained on the trains until service was restored.

Original story, from Oct. 31:

Libertyville Patch has received an emailed dispatch alert of a possible train versus pedestrian accident near Midlothian Road.

The dispatch alert came in just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

We are awaiting details from police and will provide an update as soon as more information is available.

Metra service advisories for the Milwaukee District/North schedule showed a number of delays. The most recent advisory at 11:49 p.m. regarding Fox Lake-bound train No. 2155 stated that the train would not operate past Lake Forest "due to an earlier pedestrian incident involving train No. 2153 near Libertyville." That train was slated to arrive in Libertyville at 9:42 p.m., according to the Metra schedule

The first advisory came at 11:02 p.m., warning that train No. 2153 en route to Fox Lake remained "stopped near Libertyville due to a pedestrian incident." The train was 100 minutes delayed as of 11:02 p.m.

Another advisory at 11:29 p.m. showed that train No. 2160 en route to Chicago was running 45 to 50 minutes behind schedule due to the pedestrian incident.

Editor's Note: This story has been corrected to reflect the location of the accident as occurring east of Milwaukee Avenue, not near Midlothian Road as previously stated. We apologize for the error.

I SUSPECT SOME/MOST SUCH EVENTS ARE NOT ACCIDENTS. THEY COULD BE SUICIDES.
