Police Looking for Driver Who Struck Pedestrian

A man was walking at Butterfield and Route 60 in Vernon Hills Saturday when he was hit by a car, which then left the scene. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

Vernon Hills Police are looking for a driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian and fled the scene early Saturday afternoon at Route 60 and Butterfield Road.

Police said the accident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. July 14. The vehicle was described as a small four-door, possibly a white Honda Civic. The driver was described as a white male in his 50s, wearing a baseball hat and glasses, police said.

The pedestrian, a white male, said he was hit when he started crossing Route 60. The signal permitted him to cross and "as soon as I stepped off the curb, the driver accelerated to make a right-hand turn onto Butterfield."

"The driver asked me from his car if I was OK and I told him 'No' and to pull over so I could get his information, and he drove off," the man added.

The pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

If you have any information on this incident, call the Vernon Hills Police Department at (847) 362-4449.

Editor's note: In the interest of transparency, I'd like to disclose that the man who was was hit by the car is one of my family members.
