Schakowsky Rallies Democrats for Schneider

Primary opponents offer support at unity rally.

Brad Schneider stood with Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) and his three opponents for the Democratic nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat Thursday in Lincolnshire in a show of unity after winning Tuesday’s primary.

Schakowsky and Schneider rallied more than 250 people at a Tenth Congressional District Democrats unity event to put aside their differences after a spirited primary and focus their energy on unseating Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) as Ilya Sheyman, John Tree and Vivek Bavda pledged their support.

Schneider began his general election campaign Wednesday morning at the Highland Park train station and Dold wasted little time responding to the Deerfield management consultant’s criticism.

Earlier: Update: Dold Responds to Schneider

After the Illinois General Assembly created more Democratic friendly Congressional Districts in May, Schakowsky thinks the state will play a significant role helping her party win the 25 seats necessary to regain control of the House of Representatives.

“Illinois is ground zero for putting the gavel back in the hands of (Rep.) Nancy Pelosi (D-CA),” Schakowsky said. “My priority is to start with my neighboring districts,” she added referring to Schneider’s effort and the campaign of Tammy Duckworth in the 8th District.

According to Schakowsky, five of the 25 seats needed to control the House could come from Illinois.

Before Schneider could claim victory Tuesday he had to withstand attacks from groups supporting Sheyman for donations made to some Republicans over the last 10 years despite making many more contributions to Democrats including Schakowsky and Pelosi.

“He ran in a really tough primary,” Schakowsky said of Schneider’s campaign. “It made him ready to handle anything thrown at him. Now it’s time to focus on November like a laser.”

Schneider told the crowd about how he was tested in the primary and with their help would be ready for the general election.

“I woke up Tuesday morning with a knot in my stomach,” Schneider said of his feeling election day. “If we go forward arm in arm I won’t wake up with a knot in my stomach Nov. 6 and by 7:15 (p.m.) we’ll be celebrating.”

Some of Sheyman’s passionate supporters indicated they want the opportunity to transfer their enthusiasm. New Trier Democratic Organization President Priscilla Sperling asked Schneider to let them know him better.

“We will work our hearts out for you if you tell us who you are so we can fully know our candidate,” Sperling said.

Schneider told Patch after the event he was ready to accommodate the New Trier Democrats and everyone else in the District who wants to get to know him.

“I’ll meet every one of them anywhere they want,” Schneider said. “I am who I am. I didn’t tack to the left in the primary and I won’t tack to the right in the general.”

During his speech to the gathering, he put his philosophy in clear terms. “I want to make life a little better for people so they can wake up in the morning and feel a little better for their children, that they can pay for the roof over their head and have a secure retirement.”

Put the gavel back into Nancy "you can read the (healthcare) bill after we pass it" Pelosi's hand again? The Nancy Pelosi who failed to pass a Federal Budget the two years she held the gavel? The Nancy Pelosi who presided over the largest deficit increase in the history of our Nation?

I sincerely hope that Schneider stated he would never support her for Speaker of the House! Ever!

As opposed to Boehner? He can't get anything through his house of cards. The Republican Party is out of control and between the Speaker and Cantor they can't marshall enough votes to save the Country from default....much less get any business done.

What are you talking about? The Democrats in the senate have intentionally failed to pass a budget for over a 1,000 days simply so that they can blame the Republicans for doing nothing. Obama lied about the negotiations he had with Republicans, who apparently were willing to give him what he wanted, just so he could play politics and claim the Republicans refused to make a deal.

The Democrat party can be summarized as follows:

The Democrats used the finincial crisis as cover to spend money to reward their friends, punish their enemies, consolidate their power, and push through their radical ideology into policy. They did nothing to fix the underlying problems that caused the crisis in the first place, and put in place policies that will exacerbate the problem in the future. They did not waste the crisis.

They naively thought that they could do all this while blaming Bush, and that the economy would bounce back no matter what policies they put in place, because it always does... right? They thought they could get the best of both worlds... credit for the recovery, and credit for all the new give-aways, all while blaming Republicans for everything in the world that goes wrong.

The problem they're having is that economics trump politics and any attempt to build a Utopian world where everyone is free from want and lives out of his neighbor's pocket is doomed to end very badly.

Over 50% of entitlement spending is spent on the elderly. The Republicans simply try to appeal to their base with a backward social agenda that limits freedom while enriching the very ones that received so many of the tax cuts from the Bush administration....and the get votes from people that they are hurting by repealing laws and programs that become a safety net.
If you're not careful, you'll vote in the very ones that will rob you of any safety net. Maybe not you, or your immediate family, but someone you know and care about needs a safety net, if not today...soon. Will it be there? Not if the Republican agenda gets through.
Oh, Boehner thought he had a deal. Could not pull his Tea Party Freshmen on board. Norquist did not approve. The Speaker does not have control and the Republicans have caused the gridlock we see today.
Each party needs to step up, but at least the Democrats are not trying to demolish society.

Then you agree that "ALL" the Bush tax cuts should be syopped?

RB,
You can't buy me off with my childrens' money, so don't even try. I would give up every claim I have to government goodies if I could get my kids out of the Ponzi scheme. Show me where to sign.

Is anyone with me?

Gary, buy you off? Would that be similar to Dold selling his and the districts future to the Tea Party in order to get elected. Ask Grover Norquist about buying someone off. Not me.

RB, you clearly are not paying attention to the recent Washington D.C. dynamics. The House passes bills and sends them to the Democratic controlled Senate. The Senate then kills the bill in a partisan fashion whether it is good or bad because it came from Republicans and the last thing in the world any Democrat wants to see is Republicans getting credit for working. The Democrats then decry the "partisanship" in Washington, D.C. causing gridlock.

In the meantime, Boehner resists the demands of various tea party representatives to fight to the death and let government collapse. Funny how Dold isn't in that category and takes a more moderate, rational view of things. Yet Democrats arbitrarily pound on Boehner for doing the right thing, and that pounding is partisan. They also make fun of Boehner for not running his caucus in a dictatorial like fashion like a Michael Madigan.

Do we need to fix Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid? Yes. But Democrats don't want to fix a program which will soon run out of cash and collapse. They just want to demagogue the issue some more. And Barak Obama, as President, displays ZERO leadership on the subject.

Can ANYONE give us an intelligent reason why NO federal budget has been enacted under Barak Obama's watch in the White House? Even during the Nancy "you can read the (healthcare) bill after we pass it" Pelosi years?

Anyone?

Can you provide an intelligent reason why a budget can't include new revenue? That's the Republican position. This budget impasse is caused by the Republican refusal to include new revenue. Most of the Freshmen signed the Norquist pledge, so they are bound by that. There is no reasonable way to balance the budget without spending cuts AND new revenue. To think and act otherwise is both stupid and pandering to get votes.

New revenue RB? Higher taxes? Give the federal government more money so that they spend more money?

Let's see the federal budget. During Obama's watch in the White House no federal budget has been passed. When the Democrats controlled the House, Senate and the White House, they didn't even pass a budget!

And you want to give them more money when they refuse to tell you (by failing to pass a budget) what they plan to spend it on? Does that make you a disciple of the Nancy "you can read the (healthcare) bill after we pass it" Pelosi?

Where is the budget?

Sending another progressive (i.e. "liberal") Democrat who would perpetuate this nonsense is not the answer. And the voters in the 10th are sharp enough to figure that out!

Louis, you can't balance the budget without including new net revenue. By the way. Did you know the Ryan plan will result in individuals being taxed for the value of benefits provided by their employer? Yep! Let's say someone is lucky enough to work for a company that pays for the bulk of the healthcare premium. Just for grins, let's say the company picks up $750 a month and the employee pays $100. Under the Ryan plan, the employee will pay taxes on the $650 per month difference. Technically, revenue neutral.
I don't think it's fair for Congress to do that to the average American working stiff, but won't roll back tax cuts for the extremely wealthy.
Fixing this mess takes a balanced approach and does not put the weight of the balancing on the lower and middle class. It's not fair, it's not just, it's not American!

I fully support Louis G. Atsaves when he blogged at 7:12 am on Friday, March 23, 2012: "Put the gavel back into Nancy 'you can read the (healthcare) bill after we pass it' Pelosi's hand again?

Even the dimmest bulb in the Democratic tribe of Illinois silently finds Peloski's remark right at the top in the PANTHEON of ALL TIME DUMMEST REMARKS ever made by
any American politician.

It amazes me how such a bitter, extremist partisan like Schakowsky gets re-elected with such overwhelming majorities. How can a politician whose husband is a convicted white collar criminal and who refuses to negotiate on major issues like the appointed super-committee be so overwhelmingly re-elected? It is bizarre-o world in that district.

Bizarre-o district? Try the 8th. I guess Joe Walsh is your kinda man. He's not partisan at all is he? He won't even let someone finish their sentence, he's so full of his own partisan views.

Next, probably the 10th. Full of educated people and they elect someone like Dold. That's bizarre-o too. It's a strange world out there.

Schakowsky and Schneider only contribute to the horrible rhetoric in this nation. They're both too extreme. At least Congressman Dold has a proven track record of being more independent than Schakowsky, and more independent than Schneider will be. These links prove that Dold is an Independent:

Mr Dold joined the other Tea Party Freshmen and voted to shut the Government down when time to compromise, resulting in a lowering of the USA credit rating. How Independent was that? Not Independent at all.

Only an extremists like RB would call centrist Dold an extremist. From the far left edge of the horizon, almost everything looks extreme, right RB? RB represents the Tea Party of the Left.
