Village Opens Cooling Center

Libertyville residents without power can cool off at the Civic Center.

The Village of Libertyville has opened a cooling center at the Civic Center, 135 W. Church St., where residents can stay until power is restored, according to a news release.

As a precautionary measure, village officials are urging people to limit water usage where possible and completely refrain from outdoor watering until power is fully restored.

Residents are also urged to stay clear of downed power lines to ensure safety.

The Public Works Department expect the cleanup from the storm may take up to two weeks.

Commonwealth Edison is currently unable to provide an estimate of when power will be restored. As of 10 a.m. July 11, 298,000 customers in the northern suburbs are without power.

If you need assistance with the cleanup of tree branches from your yard, locate them at the street curb with the cut side of the branches facing the street.

To report down power lines, call 911.

To report or request information about fallen trees or branches, contact the Public Works Department: 847-362-3434
