Adler Center to display "Dreamscapes" by Susan Anne Russell

Local artist Susan Russell will be displaying her paintings at the David Adler Music and Arts Center from January 18 - February 2.

Originally born in NYC, Susan’s current studio is on a lake outside of Chicago. Having exhibited and sold work throughout the major metropolis, her art reaches many levels, from small intimate works to large commissioned murals. Susan is a professor of art history and
in 2008 was accepted into Agora Gallery in the Chelsea district of NYC as well as NY Biennale 2009.  She paints in most genres anywhere from Landscapes, abstracts, nudes, portraits, still lives, to full scale murals.

Susan has a series of sepia toned Renaissance oil paintings that incorporate the pigment burnt umber. The selection of monochrome is arresting and the image reveals itself without the luxury of a full palette. The burnt umber pigment recalls the hue attained from the ruins of Pompeii to Renaissance drawings. The burnt umber applied with washes of turpentine reveals drippings and cracks to uncover a process of decay. The delicate subtleties of the drawings are given strength and permanence in the medium of oil, yet they retain the fragility of the dust they come from creating dreamlike interludes.

Come to the Adler Center (1700 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in Libertyville Friday, February 18th from 7 - 9pm to meet Susan, view and purchase artwork, drink wine, and eat delicious food!
