Did you know the Bobcat is found in 99 of the 102 counties in Illinois?

Better yet, did you know Lake County residents can visit this amazing animal that can run up to 40 mph right at the Wildlife Discovery Center (WDC) at Elawa Farm in Lake Forest?

Boris the Bobcat has been a resident of the WDC for just about two years, and he is in need of an addition to his existing cage.

Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch has joined forces with the Wildlife Discovery Center as part of its "Ask the Expert" program to raise some money toward building that addition while giving Lake County residents a chance to meet Boris.

A special free presentation by Curator Rob Carmichael will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the WDC, 1401 Middlefork Drive. Carmichael will provide some interesting details about Boris while inside his cage, demonstrate the training Boris receives to assist his care and then participate in a question-answer session afterward.

Families are encouraged to attend to see this Illinois wonder up close.

Built in 1917, Elawa Farm was named as a composite of ELsa and A. Watson Armour. Elawa Farm was their weekend home, designed by David Adler, and featuring a style of a gentleman's farm which emphasized enjoying the pleasures of land ownership over a farm for profit.

In 1998, the city of Lake Forest purchased the 16 acre parcel including the original farm complex featuring the Wildlife Discovery Center, which has a variety of species ranging from reptiles to a bobcat.

The Garden Market runs through the end of October featuring crops from the grounds of Elawa Farm property, which has undergone a major restoration since 2009.

We love Boris (and Rob)! This sounds like something my whole family would love to attend, but the timing is tough with our schedules.
