Timeless Our Song plays Libertyville, Nov. 30 – Dec. 2
Liberty Town Productions stages homage to storied composer Marvin Hamlisch
LIBERTYVILLE—Liberty Town Productions, Libertyville’s not-for-profit entertainment company, stages the musical-comedy, They’re Playing Our Song, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 7:30 pm and Dec. 2 at 3 pm.
Musical-theatre icons Neil Simon and composer Marvin Hamlisch teamed to tell this story of a romantic relationship between a neurotic composer and a quirky lyricist, based on the relationship between Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager, who penned the lyrics for this comedy. What is now a timeless classic enjoyed a Broadway run of more than 1,000 performances and countless revivals and international tours.
Hamlisch died at age 68 this August. His storied career is highlighted at http://www.marvinhamlisch.com/. Liberty Town chose to do this show, in part, as a tribute to one of Broadway’s brightest stars.
The local production stars Libertyville stage veterans Patrick Farbo (Musical Summer Showcase) and Penny Roman (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and a Greek chorus of local talent including Irene Ducharme, Susie Aiello Kiefer, Daniel Mendoza, Javier Soler, Patrick Scheibler and Jodi Thors.
The show is directed by Carley Wilson Alcorn, who starred in last spring’s production of The Last Five Years, and is music-directed by Laurel Ann Kaiser. In addition to Kaiser on keyboards, the production’s pit band includes Bill Coronelli (drums), Bill Dejon (guitar), Ryan Stueckemann (bass) and Dennis Sullivan (trumpet).
Tickets for all three performances are available online via the “box office” link at www.libertytownproductions.com. Performances will be at the Libertyville High School Studio Theatre, 708 W. Park Avenue, Libertyville, via the building’s north entrance. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday evening performances are $20 for adults and $10 for students with i.d. Sunday’s encore matinee performance is a joint fundraiser with the Center for Companies That Care (http://www.companies-that-care.org/) to support that organization’s “Invisible Differences” program. Sunday’s tickets are complimentary, but a donation to benefit both not-for-profit organizations is requested. Available tickets will also be sold at the door. All seating is general admission with doors opening approximately 30 minutes before curtain.
