The service is offered by the Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation.

Do you have any prescription medications that you no longer need? You can drop them off at the Libertyville Police Department

The Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation, founded in Highland Park, has a prescription medication disposal box at the police department. The Foundation was started in Highland Park by David and Gail Katz and their daughter, Melissa Katz Gold, following the death of Daniel Katz from an overdose of prescription drugs in June 2007.

Items accepted for disposal include: prescription medications (including controlled substances), over-the-counter and pet medications, samples, vitamins, liquids, and creams. Items that are not acceptable include: needles, thermometers, IV bags, bloody waste and hydrogen peroxide.
