Runners and walkers alike enjoyed Independence Grove on a chilly, but beautiful morning on May 3rd for the 2nd Annual EmpoweRun / Walk benefitting A Safe Place. Over 400 helped organizers surpass last year’s attendance and funds raised.

The EmpoweRun / Walk raised more than $35,000 in support of services to assist victims and their children transform their lives after experiencing domestic violence. As the leading advocate for eliminating domestic violence in northern Illinois, A Safe Place provides emergency shelter, affordable housing, advocacy, and individual and group supportive services for survivors of domestic violence and their children; and intervention services for abusers to learn accountability for their choices and actions. The money raised will be used to fund these programs.
“I am proud to support A Safe Place, a tireless advocate for ending domestic violence and a vital resource for the Lake County community, providing support and resources for victims of domestic violence and their families,” says Congressman Brad Schneider, one of the speakers at the event.

Founded in 1980, A Safe Place is the leading advocate for eliminating domestic violence in northern Illinois, and is Lake County, Illinois’ only provider of services exclusively for victims of domestic violence.
A Safe Place provides emergency shelter; affordable transitional housing; a 24-hour help line (847-249-4450); court and non-legal advocacy; individual, group, and children’s counseling; family visitation services; batterer intervention services; and community outreach, prevention education, and professional training.
