Brainerd Plans Impressive

The fate of the Brainerd building will be determined at the March 18 election. At that time, voters will decide whether to restore the building into a functional, attractive, important addition to the Libertyville area, or to demolish it for a parking lot. The question will be open for discussion at three town hall meetings set for February 6 and 12, and March 4, each at 7 pm at the Civic Center. The public is invited to come to these meetings and express views, as well as to get answers to any questions on the proposed referendum. Meanwhile, it might help to see what the actual physical plan is for the restoration. Included will be a large-event hall with catering kitchen, which will also serve as a black box theater for area groups to call home. Other areas will include a large, bright senior center, as well as areas for local businesses and meetings. Below are some renderings of what the spaces will look like, courtesy of architect Kurt Hezner. The building will provide something for everyone, from civic organizations to care groups to individuals and small businesses, all at a competitive rental cost that will see the building become self-sustaining.
