Garden Club Helped by Eagle Scout Candidate

Sam Marlinga of Troop 71 in Libertyville is working on getting his Eagle Scout Badge by organizing other troop members to assist the Town and Country Garden Club in improving the appearance of the historic Court House Bell located on Milwaukee Ave. just north of Winchester House.

“Most people driving by the bell aren’t aware of its existence or the important part it played in the history of Lake County,” said Joyce Geib, Garden Club President. “We’re thrilled Sam is helping with the project.”

Landscaping and gardening of the bell area began on August 3 with the planting of knockout roses and the raising of the path tiles leading to the bell.  Sam will also be researching the history of the bell and will create an informative sign.

One of the current goals of the Town and Country Garden Club is to increase the awareness of the Court House Bell’s importance and appearance.
