Local Nonprofit and Hacker Earn Top Award at

Gurnee-based nonprofit giveNkind received the judge's top award for their project this past weekend at the Chicago Hackathon as part of the National Civic Day of Hacking.  giveNkind is a nonprofit that is creating a web platform to allow nonprofits to post their in kind material wish lists and for donors across the country to search for items they would like to give.  Hacker Jeffrey SubbaRao of Wilmette was the hacker who took on the giveNkind project and helping them earn top marks.  "We are so grateful for the skill Jeffrey brought to the project, " remarks giveNkind founder and president Emily Petway.  "The entire hackathon experience was inspiring and we are excited to think that this project will make an impact on other nonprofits across the country!"
Over 10,000 computer programmers, tech professionals, and community activists all across the country participated in the National Civic Day of Hacking this past weekend.  Community members from nonprofit organization as well as students looking to make a difference pitched ideas that involved a technical solution to making the world a better place.  Technical teams selected community projects and spent 24 hours creating a solution such as website or app.  Chicago's hackaton was hosted by the Adler Planetarium.
