Olympic Torch Visits Copeland Manor School

Alec Bath, who ran the Olympic flame for half a mile in Houston for the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, brought the torch he carried to Copeland School in Libertyville on Tuesday.

Bath, father of fourth-grader Colin, let students in Beth Weaver's classroom hold the torch and ask him questions about the experience.

Carrying the torch was "one of the most exciting times of my life," Bath told the students, adding that he was randomly chosen by his Libertyville-based company to carry the torch as they were given five torch carrying slots out of 12,000. Bath, an engineer, was chosen from a group of company employees who were known runners.
The question all the students wanted answered? Did he drop the torch? He did not.
