Libertyville resident (and Encore Theatre director) Bob Silton is vacationing in New York City and preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
We'll be sharing photos and occasional updates from Silton as the storm advances.
9:59 a.m. Oct. 30:
"Well, survived the night. Lost power for awhile during the night. Many areas much worse off. Still stuck on Manhattan."
From Oct. 29
8:17 p.m. (9:17 p.m. New York time):
"Lower Manhattan is taking a beating ... midtown fine, power good ... seeing many friends in lower areas saying power went out ... rain has stopped."
3:40 p.m. (4:40 p.m. New York time):
"Wind is really picking up ... street signs and trees down ... rain is picking up. It's not too bad yet ... just raining and windy. NYC is strong. They are saying around 9 tonight Battery Park should start getting surge."
11:36 a.m. (12:36 p.m. New York time):
"The rain has started in the city but nothing too serious yet. Not many people on the streets ... very zombie-like right now."
