Dog Days of Summer Opening Ceremonies

Opening Ceremonies and the “Local Big Air Dog Jumping Competition” are scheduled to begin on Friday, July 8th at 6pm at the X-Treme Dog Park (PNC Bank Parking Lot). Local Boy and Girl Scout troops  will present the colors, Jon Weppler will sing the National Anthem and Mayor Terry Weppler will throw out the first ball. Following the Opening Ceremonies is the exciting Local Competition, where local (your neighbors) dogs will compete for the title of “Libertyville’s Big Air Dog”.

Libertyville is again proud to be Host City for the exciting “DockDogs-Big Air Dog Jumping” Road to the National Championship 2011.  Bill Kaiser, owner of Pampered Pup’z and producer of Libertyville’s Dog Days of Summer explains, “You will see Speed . . .  Explosion . . . Big Air and SPLASH, as dogs run down a 40 ft. dock and jump into a 27,000-gallon 20x40 foot pool.”  The event will feature over 100 nationally ranked top jumping dogs competing for prizes and rankings.  The competition is simple and exciting:  the dog with the longest leap off the dock, the “Big Air Dog”…Wins!

After an exciting day watching Big Air Dog Jumping, take a leisurely stroll with your dog into the quant shops of MainStreet Libertyville where stores are dog friendly all year long, however, this weekend they are especially dog friendly, hosting doggy-related events. Examples include: Touché’ Salon’s paw-nail painting and bedazzle, Trattoria Pomigliano’s owner/pet look-a-like contest, Artist at Heart Dog Art Activities, and Rolland’s Jewelers personalized Dog Charms.  You can also try dog friendly dining in Cook Park or on the patios of Egg Harbor Café, 545 North Bar & Grill, MainStreet Smokehouse, Casa Bonita, or Mickey Finn’s Brewery.
