Libertyville Presents Antique Show on Wheels

The ninth annual Car Fun on 21will be held on May 18 along Church Street.

Church Street will become the mecca for vintage car enthusiasts as hosts its ninth annual Car Fun on 21.

On May 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., take a walk along Church Street between Milwaukee and Brainerd avenues to see some 100 cars that are more than a quarter of a century old, and chat with their owners.

“It’s an antique show on wheels,” Car Fun on 21 chair Les Galo said.

The cars range from hot rods to small British sports cars and land yachts. Galo said there are Cadillacs and Chryslers from the 1950s and 60s that are “probably big enough they could not fit in any garage.”

Galo said Car Fun on 21 often is a chance for people to walk down memory lane and reminiscence about the cars they once dreamed about owning as a teen.

“Now older, they may see someone has a refurbished one and think ‘my midlife crisis can be solved if I got one of these,” Galo said.

In addition to the cars, Car Fun on 21 will offer a new attraction as families can come see vintage fire trucks on June 22. The event will continue July 20, Aug. 17 and Sept. 21.

Each night, visitors can also enjoy live entertainment. On May 18, listen to the Mojo Daddies. The lineup continues with Miss Demeanor and the Attitudes on June 22, Downhome Sophisticates on July 20, John McHugh on Aug. 17 and Henneberry on Sept. 21.
