Libertyville Teen Finalist for PETA's 'Cutest Vegan Alive'

John Jungenberg attends animal rights protests, distributes leaflets, organizes screenings, and dares people to take the "Paid-Per-View" challenge by offering to pay them a buck to sit through a video about factory farming, according to PETA.

John Jungenberg, 17, of Libertyville, beat out hundreds of entrants from across the country to be named one of 10 male finalists in the running for the title of Cutest Vegan Alive, a contest sponsored by peta2, PETA's youth division, according to PETA.

People can vote online for their favorite. The deadline to vote is 11 a.m. June 24. The two winners, one male and one female contestant, will win a professional photo shoot and star in a peta2 ad.

"John is a perfect example of a young person who's determined to make the world a kinder place," says peta2 Director Marta Holmberg. "Young people who go vegan show respect for animals, the environment, and their own bodies, and that makes all of them cute in our book."

Jungenberg was a longtime vegetarian who went vegan (not consuming any animal products) after learning about animal abuse in the dairy and egg industries, according to PETA.

Jungenberg, an activist who started his own animal rights biking group, stated on his PETA bio, "I love animals and use every opportunity I get to help them!"
