Patch Passport: A Little Bit of Paradise at Allure Designs in Beauty

The Thursday Patch Passport takes you to a local spa where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life. Come along and relax...

Tucked in the east-side parking lot of Milwaukee Avenue is a little bit of paradise that not only relaxes the soul but also refreshes the skin.

, 530 N. Milwaukee Ave., is a full-service Aveda concept salon. Upon entering, the friendly staff offered me healthy choice of beverages; herbal tea or water.

Facials are offered in private rooms that are filled with the smell of incense and the soft sounds of exotic music. The hour-long facials start with questions about skin conditions, what the customer hopes to achieve and if there are any allergies.

For me, my main concern was preparing my face for the summer and shedding any residues of winter, especially the red blotches from harsh winds. I had been allergic to Aveda facial creams in the past and the aesthetician worked with me to figure out the product.

She was very knowledgeable and offered tips for preventing flaky or blotchy skins. Her recommendation? Drink more water and less tea because it contributes to flakiness. Who knew?

Like most facials, there was cleansing, exfoliation, facemasks, and shoulder and neck massage. The most surprising part of this paradise adventure was the 15-minute foot massage, which relaxed me from head to toe.
