Proposed Projects to Address Des Plaines River Flooding

An open house will be held in Libertyville Tuesday night, according to the Daily Herald.

With the hopes of curbing floods along the Des Plaines River in Cook and Lake counties, a federal study has recommended 27 proposed projects that are meant to limit flood damage and restore the area's ecosystem, according to the Daily Herald.

Some of the proposed projects include: construction of an 11,100-foot levee and flood wall along the river in Des Plaines as well as levees in Riverside, River Grove, and on the Schiller Park-Franklin Park border; the addition of a resorvoir at Aptakisic Creek in Buffalo Grove; and the removal of five total dams in Wheeling, Park Ridge and Des Plaines, according to the Daily Herald.

An open house will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a presentation will follow at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, 500 W. Winchester Road in Libertyville, where residents will get the chance to learn more about the proposed projects, according to the article.
