Rain, Possible Flooding in the Forecast

There's a 40 percent chance of rain today. What's in store for the rest of the week?

Rain, rain go away. 

The Libertyville area is expected to see plenty of April showers in the coming days with rain—and some snow—in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Today, scattered showers are likely before 3 p.m. Cloudy skies and high of 45 degrees are in the forecast.

A flood watch is also in effect just upstream on the Des Plaines River. The Des Plaines River water level was 6 feet in Gurnee at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The flood stage is 7 feet, which National Weather Service officials say could be reached by Friday afternoon.

The Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service shows the Des Plaines River in Lincolnshire at 10.2 feet Thursday, with the water level expected to rise to 11.5 feet—1 foot shy of flood stage—on Friday.

On Friday, there is a slight chance of sprinkles and flurries before 1 p.m., followed by sprinkles in the afternoon. It will be breezy and a high near 45 degrees is in the forecast. 

We may get some reprieve from the rain on Saturday. Mostly cloudy skies and a high of 47 degrees is forecasted on Saturday. There's a 30 percent chance of rain on Sunday, with a high of 61 degrees.

  • Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53.
