Share A Haircut Through Aug. 15

Hair Cuttery Salon will donate a haircut to a child in need for every haircut a child receives in Libertyville.

Children receiving a haircut at the Libertyville Hair Cuttery Salon, 125 N. Milwaukee Ave., during the first two weeks of August will be giving one back to a disadvantaged child in the community.

Hair Cuttery has launched its 12th annual Share A Haircut event, which will donate one free haircut to a child in need in the community for every haircut purchased for a child 18 or younger from Aug.1 to Aug. 15. Libertyville's location is one of 106 Hair Cuttery salons in the Chicago area participating in the program.

“We expect more than 60,000 haircuts to be donated in communities across the country to children in need,” said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. “We’re proud to offer this program that gives children the opportunity to help other kids in the community. A simple haircut can make a big difference in a child’s appearance and gives students more confidence as they start the school year.”

Through partnerships with Adoptions Unlimited, Illinois Department of Human Services and other local government and nonprofit social service organizations, vouchers are distributed to local children in need to obtain a free haircut in August. In 2010, more than 9,250 haircuts were donated in the Chicago area.

Eight hundred salons nationwide will participate in Share A Haircut. Hair Cuttery has donated more than 560,000 haircuts since the program’s inception in 1999.
