Winter Storm Watch in Effect for Weekend; Ice, Snow Possible
The watch area includes Lake, Lee, DeKalb and Kane Counties.
Get ready for some messy weather this weekend.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch from 6 p.m. Dec. 21 until 5 p.m. Dec. 22 for Lake, Lee, DeKalb and Kane Counties.
According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix is forecast to begin Saturday night, with the precipitation changing to all snow sometime Sunday morning.
The weather service is warning residents of a "possible significant snow and sleet accumulation by Sunday afternoon, which could make travel dangerous." The wintry mix Saturday night could also result in an icy glaze on roads, according to weather service officials.
