Beethoven in Vienna, a New Musical

  • Beethoven in Vienna is a new musical that chronicles the premiere of Beethoven's ninth and final symphony. In this story, written by Lake Bluff author, Susan L. Haugland and London composer, Nicola Jane Buttigieg, the heart of the great composer is seen through the adoring young eyes of soprano, Karoline Unger.

Beethoven in Vienna is a love story. It is a story of equality of the classes. It is also a story that examines the nature of genius and the guarded life one must live when even those who are within the close circle of colleagues and friends plot to exploit that genius for their own benefit, particularly when that genius, due to a crushing disability, must rely on those very people to survive. In the end, it is a story that reveals the romantic attraction of one’s intellect, which is often far more powerful than looks or wealth.

Already showcased in London's West End and New York's Times Square Arts Center, this is the first fully staged production of this up and coming work. Starring Gary Brichetto as Beethoven, Abigail Blair as Karoline Unger, John Chase as Anton Schindler, and an incredible supporting cast of area talent. Directed by Shifra Werch. Based on the novel, Three Weeks in Vienna, by Susan L. Haugland.
