Lake Forest Symphony Italian Fest

The Lake Forest Symphony and Maestro Alan Heatherington will be joined by guitarist Adam Levin in an Italian evening of Rossini, Respighi, Vivaldi and Castelnuovo-Tedesco.  This “Italian Fest” on January 20th and 21st will consist of two guitar concerts:  the Vivaldi Concerto in D and the Castelnuovo-Tedesco Concerto No. 1 in D.   Also on the program will be Rossini’s overtures to Il Signor Bruschino and L’Italiana in Algeri, and Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances Suite III and Gli Uccelli (The Birds).

“When I first heard Adam last year at a private recital, I knew immediately that I wanted to have him perform as soloist with the Lake Forest Symphony.” said Maestro Heatherington.  “Adam is a Lake Bluff native who attended Lake Forest Country Day School and Lake Forest Academy before going on to receive degrees from Northwestern University and the New England Conservatory of Music, making it even more special that he is back home to perform with our orchestra.”

Adam Levin has been praised by renowned American guitarist, Eliot Fisk, as a “virtuoso guitarist and a true 21st century renaissance man with the élan, intelligence, charm, tenacity and conviction to change the world.” The recipient of numerous top prizes, Adam Levin has been recognized by national and international competitions. As an ambassador for the guitar, Mr. Levin is dedicated to sharing his instrument’s vibrant and comprehensive repertoire in underserved areas and unconventional spaces. In 2007-08, he was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship for innovative community work in the Boston area.  Levin’s debut recording In the Beginning, was lauded as “absolutely thrilling…will dazzle and entertain at every possible opportunity” by Minor 7th Acoustic Guitar Music Reviews. A second CD, Duo Sonidos, with violinist William Knuth was released in late 2010. Levin also released his third CD, Music from Out of Time, featuring world-premiere recordings by contemporary Spanish composers. A fourth recording is underway, Fuego de la Luna, featuring the complete guitar works of Cuban-Spanish composer, Eduardo Morales-Caso, which will be released by Verso Records.
