A suburban homeowner earned $12,000 from KMart to use their home for six days for a holiday print advertisement, according to the Daily Herald.

For years, TV and film directors have been choosing Chicago — and the surrounding suburbs — for filming, partially because of its "diverse scenery and home styles," according to the Daily Herald. 

Homeowners can earn thousands of dollars per day if their home is chosen for filming, according to the article.

The Daily Herald article gives tips on how to get your home or business featured on television, film or in advertisements, which include: sending photos to a location scout and also posting those photos on the Illinois Film Office's website, according to the Daily Herald.
