Renowned Jazz Artist Performs at St. Lawrence Sunday

St. Lawrence Episcopal Church in Libertyville will present a Jazz Vespers service Sunday evening to honor jazz musicians and jazz music in the church.

Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Libertyville High School Jazz Combo will perform at 6:30 p.m. and  the Vespers service begins at 7 p.m. with special guest artist Robin Watson. Intermixed with the musicians’ music will be a brief liturgy of evening prayer.

Watson has appeared at many of Chicago’s premiere jazz venues including Garfield Park Conservatory, United Center, Peninsula Hotel, Metropolitan Club and the Cotton Club.

The service is free and all are welcome. Following the program, a coffee and refreshment hour will be held in the church Narthex.

This event will be the first of many, as the church plans are to host a monthly Jazz Vespers starting in the fall and running through the spring of 2014.
