Want to Sleep Better?

If you want to sleep better this is a important read for you.

If you want to sleep better this is a important read for you.

What I have found is that there are two types of people; those that sleep well and have no problems and those that struggle for one reason or another. For those that sleep well, sleep is never even thought of, but for those that struggle with it it plagues them on a daily basis. So here are some tips to help anyone sleep better...

Keep your bedroom as dark as you can. Light stimulates your brain and never fully allows your cortisol levels to rest. Your cortisol levels are affected by stress and when those levels are higher you are “chemically overworked”. Those levels when you sleep reset and relax.

Keep your bedroom cool. Keeping your bedroom around 68-69 promotes the best temperature for rest.

STRETCH. Stretching before bed is a great way to recover from the day and relax your body. Done properly with relaxing breathing techniques will help your whole body settle down and prepare for sleep. Think of it as your warm up for sleeping like you would before a workout. When you breathe make sure you are expanding from your belly and lungs. Too often we elevate our body when we breathe. That results in “shallow” breathes and low oxygen levels. Place one hand on your belly and the other on the middle of your chest. Think about pushing those hands out by breathing in and expanding. When you stretch hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds breathing into it.

Lastly, since I am in the giving mood I wanted to invite you to take advantage of a complimentary nutritional coaching session with me. It is a 30 minute phone call that can help place you on a better track with your diet, which by the way has an affect on your sleep. If you or a friend would benefit from such a call please respond to this email.
