Encore Theatre Event Benefits Libertyville Civic Center Foundation

Encore Theatre will host four performances, Jan. 27, 28 and Feb. 3, 4. All proceeds after production costs will benefit the foundation.

For the past five years, Encore Theatre has been rehearsing at , 135 W. Church St., Libertyville. Now, the children’s program, will host dinner theatre performances to benefit Libertyville Civic Center Foundation.

“The Civic Center has really become a home to Encore and we love the idea of being able to give back with what we know best, putting on a show,” said .

In 2010, the theater group raised some $2,000 for the foundation. This year, Silton says he hopes to match or exceed that amount.

“All the funds raised after production costs will be donated to the foundation,” Silton said.

 will present John and Jen, a musical about Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life — her younger brother, who was killed in Vietnam, and her son, who is finding his way in a confusing world.

Silton says the show is touching and funny at the same time and he wanted to expose the community to musicals that are original and not overly produced.

“I love that it is a two-person musical,” Silton said. “I love that you can really fall in love with the characters on their journey and all that there is, is you and the actors”
