Making People Beautiful Runs in Ariazis' Genes

Lara Richardson-Ariazi has teamed up with her mother to open Ariazi Salon and Spa, 605 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

Making people feel beautiful has been in Lara Richardson-Ariazi’s family for three generations. Her mother was a hairstylist and is now an aesthetician. Her grandmother was a licensed stylist in 1928.

Lara, 39, has teamed up with her mother Janis, 70, to open Ariazi Salon and Spa in downtown Libertyville.

Lara, a 20-year hair stylist, says the salon prides itself on providing natural soft looks.

“When clients show us a photo, we can duplicate it,” Lara said. “Our hair color also makes hair shinier, usually by the third time; it will be less frizzy than it was two or three hair colors ago.”

Annette Bouvin, 47, who has followed the Ariazi duo for five years, agrees.

“I was seeing someone else a few years ago and wasn’t satisfied,” Bouvin said. “Lara was able to cut my hair like what I had been striving to do for years in one cut.”

The Wadsworth resident said all she did was show Lara a photo and described how she would style it.

“What’s great about Lara is that she teaches you how to style it. She doesn’t just do it in the salon — she will show you so you can style it at home,” Bouvin said.

Continual education was one of Bouvin’s favorite things about both Ariazis.

“Lara goes to many classes. She is more of an artist than she is just a regular hair stylist,” Bouvin said.

As for the aesthetician in the family, Bouvin says it’s Janis’ deep knowledge of facials that keeps her coming back monthly.

“She’s gotten rid of deep wrinkles I have,” Bouvin said. “She also nipped some in the bud.”

Bouvin says results take more than one treatment as well as care at home.

“Janis also teaches me how to take care of my skin so that the deeper wrinkles don’t happen,” Bouvin said. “You are never going to have 20-year-old skin again, but you can head down the right path with knowledge she prescribes.”
