New Jewelry, Clothing Boutique to Open at Centre Club

What She Wants will feature j'artisa handmade jewelry, along with clothing and vintage purses.

After traveling to sell her handmade jewelry at various shows for 12 years—and operating a traveling boutique for the last five—Lisa Dalton Kula is embarking on a new jewelry journey.

Her What She Wants boutique is set to open Oct. 2 inside the Advocate Condell Centre Club, 200 W. Golf Road, Liberytville. The shop will feature Kula's j’artisa jewelry, along with both vintage and new, "artsy clothing."

Kula has been setting up her space at the Centre Club for the past month.

"The space was in pretty good shape because of the previous tenant," said Kula.

All of the furniture she's using to display her jewelry and other items has been "upcycled in some way." She found much of the furniture at thrift stores and spruced it up.

Making old things new again is not new to Kula. She uses vintage components to create her one-of-a-kind jewelry. She also repairs vintage purses, which she'll offer in her boutique.

"They just don't make them like they used to," said Kula.

She noted that the boutique will also offer some clothing for men, including t-shirts that are "dyed with green methods" and made in the U.S.A.

Kula's boutique will also continue her desire to give back. Through her "What She Gives" program, Kula will donate up to 15 percent of the boutique's sales to a charity. For the month of October, 15 percent of the sales will be donated to Advocate Condell Hospital's Breast Cancer Services program.

"It's a rewarding feeling to give back to those who can use it," said Kula. "Everyone gives back in a different way, and this is an important way that I can help right now."

Though Kula is still trying to figure out the best hours for her What She Wants boutique, the shop is set to be open during the following times: on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays.
