Shakou Set to Open Next Month in Downtown Libertyville

The restaurant will offer sushi and other seafood, along with steak and poultry.

If you've been anxiously awaiting the opening of Libertyville's newest restaurant, Shakou, you won't have to wait much longer.

The restaurant is set to open its doors March 7, said Adam Garvanian, who owns Shakou with Aleks Dupor.

"We're very excited," said Garvanian. "It's been a long road, but we're finally coming to the finish line."

Both Garvanian and Dupor have strong ties to Libertyville. They grew up in the village and graduated from Libertyville High School, so opening their restaurant in the village was an obvious choice.

"(Dupor) found this location, and it was the last one on Milwaukee Avenue," said Garvanian. "The community really supports the local businesses around here."

While they are fans of the thriving Libertyville restaurant community, "we just felt like there needed to be some kind of change. Sushi was the next concept. It's really trendy right now."

Shakou, which is Japanese for "social life," will offer sushi and other seafood, along with non-seafood fare like steak and chicken. Gluten-free items, along with a kids menu, will also be available.

The multi-level will also be a private Sake Room and two bars.

According to a press release from the restaurant, Shakou, located at 625 N. Milwaukee Ave., will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. It'll be open Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m., and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
