Smashburger announced Thursday it will open a new restaurant in the Westfield Hawthorn mall at 426 Hawthorn Center in Vernon Hills.
It's unclear at this point when the restaurant will open. The 2,300-square-foot location will have a dining room that seats 50 guests and patio seating for up to 20 guests.
The new Smashburger at Westfield Hawthron will feature a menu that keeps regional flavors and tastes in mind, according to the news release. The menu will include "the Windy City Burger," which is topped with sharp cheddar, haystack onions, Gulden's spicy mustard, lettuce and tomato and served on a pretzel bun.

Smashburger said the secret to their burger is "in the smash," which involves taken 100-percent fresh — never frozen — Angus beef and smashing it on a 400-degree flat grill to "sear in the juicy flavor," according to the news release.
Smashburger has 268 locations across the U.S. and 12 restaurants in the Chicago suburbs, including locations in Kildeer, Arlington Heights and Schaumburg.
