The 2010 Census data revealed that the overall population in the Village of Libertyville dropped 2 percent, while Libertyville Township’s population increased by 8.6 percent. Mayor Terry Weppler said he was surprised and expected the village to see population growth like the township.

A local business owner recently trademarked a new framing technique he is calling Mat Shimmers. The technique enhances matt boards by adhering recycled-glass beads onto the boards. The beads refract light and give off a shimmering effect.

Libertyville High School’s girls basketball team recently set a school record for the most wins in a row. On Thursday, they won the regional 48-32 against Prospect and will move on to the Mundelein Sectional.

A new organic takeout food store will be coming to Libertyville on March 1. Wisma No. 2 is the brainchild of John des Rosiers, executive chef and proprietor of Inovasi, which was named Chicago Magazine’s Best New Restaurants 2010.

It's been one month since the newly renovated Cook Park Library reopened in January. Residents say they love the new space and it shows: in January, the library reported the second highest usage in it's recorded history, falling just short of the record set in July 2008.
