Everyone is going to get lei'ed Friday at Trader Joe's grand opening in Libertyville.

That's the standard operating procedure for new Trader Joe's stores: employees hand out leis to customers.

“I have cases of them” said store captain Scott Peddicord.

There will be an official lei cutting at 8 a.m. to herald the much anticipated opening of the store at at 1600 S Milwaukee Ave. There will also be face painting for kids, plenty of samples to try out and “basic grocery shopping love," Peddicord said.

Will you be there?

It will be interesting to see how many more lanes will be standing unused at the Jewel once this opens, and how much more time the all-high school kid/cashiers will have to talk to each other about their personal lives rather than deal with the relatively few customers. Not sure what happened over in Jewel land the last few years (can't be all Mariano's - they're obnoxious in a different way), but for me, once TJ is open, I won't have much reason to stop by Jewel for anything.

Jewel seems fine to me. It certainly has a much greater selection of foods than TJ's will be able to offer, but to each his own!

I also have never had a problem with Jewel. Since Mariano's has been open for a while now, Jewel is becoming busier again. Their recent remodel also helped a lot. The problem I can see having with TJ is the same as Mariano's. It's going to be packed, which is great for them but just makes shopping hard for me with a two year old. They have good stuff but I would rather not fight the crowds just yet for some Charles Shaw.

Personally, I hope Jewel survives. It has been my hometown store since its beginning. I have noticed an upswing in customer service and new item offerings in the store. They have everything I need. Sure, I will occasionally check out the "other" two niche grocery stores in town. But Jewel will always be my main go-to store... Big comfortable aisles, plenty of parking, and now reasonable prices.

I'll be there at 7:30AM! I am so happy that they are in our town. I do not have to drive to Northbrook now. Great stuff for me a single shopper with tons of different meal ideas that i can have at home for an instant meal. Awesome prices too!
