Tropik Sun Fruit & Nut Offers 21 Flavors of Popcorn

With so many flavors of popcorn to choose from at Tropik Sun Fruit & Nut in downtown Libertyville, it may be tough for customers to choose a favorite.

There's cheese, caramel, kettle, jalapeño, pizza cheddar, bacon cheddar, tutti fruitti, sweet cinnamon roll and chocolate-covered caramel. There's even caramel-covered cheese popcorn and a new flavor the owners call Buffalo Breath, which tastes like Buffalo sauce, said employee Liz Medrano.

But what's the flavor that customers buy the most?

"Crazy Corn, with the cheese and caramel mix, is the most popular flavor," said Medrano.

The shop, owned by Barb and Harry Wellard of Lake Forest, also offers items like candy and nuts, "but popcorn is our claim to fame," said Medrano.

The popcorn is even sold at the Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills at the concession stand, Medrano said.

Tropik Sun Fruit & Nut offers birthday parties at their shop, located at 524 N. Milwaukee Ave., where children ages 4-12 can do a craft and take home a goodie bag.

"It's pretty fun," said Medrano.
