Yumz Gourmet Frozen Yogurt Open for Business

How many flavors and toppings does Yumz offer? Read on!

The self-serve frozen yogurt craze has officially hit the Libertyville Crossing Shopping Center.

Yumz Gourmet Frozen Yogurt opened its doors March 22, and there has been a steady crowd ever since, said Manager Nicole Elman.

The franchise, with corporate stores in Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake, will hold its official grand opening April 6 from noon to 2 p.m.

The shop offers 40 flavors of frozen yogurt, with 14 available on any given day. When Libertyville Patch stopped by to visit on March 25, the flavors included Cake Batter, Dreamsicle, Georgia Peach, Vanilla, Cheesecake, Blueberry, Chocolate, Red Velvet Cake and Peanut Butter, among others.

Customers can grab a cup and then choose one flavor or many flavors, said Elman.

The next stop is the topping station, where there are dozens of items to choose from, including animal crackers, Sour Patch Kids, sprinkles, Butterfinger, Swedish Fish, mini marshmallows, pretzels and more. There are also plenty of sauces, including Ghiradelli Caramel, Chocolate and White Chocolate flavors.

"The Ghiradelli sauces are to die for," said Elman.

Elman said the Cake Batter and Cookies & Cream frozen yogurt flavors are, by far, the most popular. As far as toppings go, Elman said the cheesecake bites topped with raspberry sauce are tasty as toppings.

Customers pay 42 cents per ounce for their creations, which are weighed on a scale.

"The atmosphere is really fun," said Elman. "It's a good environment for kids."

There's also free Wi-Fi, Elman said, along with a seating area that includes couches and comfy chairs.

"We're friendly and outgoing, and the place is known for being very clean," Elman said.

Yumz is located at 163 N. Milwaukee Ave. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Easter Bunny will stop by for a visit from noon to 3 p.m. March 30.
