CCU Hosts No-Cost Workshop: “The Psychology of Spending”

Public invited to free seminar centered around understanding the money spending process

Libertyville, IL, March 25, 2014:  Have you ever wondered why you left the mall with $500.00 worth of clothes when you weren’t planning to buy anything?  Perhaps you wondered why you bought one pair of shoes over another.  Or maybe, you simply made a spending decision, only to regret making the purchase a bit later.

It’s not just personal preference. In fact, psychologists have identified several forces governing consumer behavior that cause us to make decisions that aren’t always rational or in our best interest.  Understanding why we buy, what we buy and when we buy can help us make better decisions in the future.  With that in mind, Consumer Credit union (CCU; $610 Million, Waukegan, IL) has teamed up with BALANCE Financial Fitness and Consumers Cooperative Association, to host a no-cost educational workshop, “The Psychology of Spending.”

“We’ve all been there before, we enter a store intending to purchase one specific item or maybe nothing at all, then leaving with numerous items that weren’t even on our radar before we walked in,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President.  “Our ‘Psychology of Spending’ workshop helps us to understand why we make the choices we do when spending our hard-earned money, while also offering solutions geared towards helping us make more sound, and informed decisions in the future.  That’s information just about everyone can use!”

The seminar is hosted by Buck Austin, a Financial Educator with BALANCE Financial Fitness, one of CCU’s strategic partners. Buck has over 13 years in the financial field and began his career with BALANCE in 2008 placing a strong focus on helping families and individuals create a better financial future for themselves. Buck is a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor and has helped a multitude of people get on the right track towards financial stability by teaching the practice of responsible spending.

"The Psychology of spending” is a no-cost workshop open to both the public and credit union Members.  The seminar is presented by Consumers Credit Union in cooperation with BALANCE Financial Fitness and the Consumers Cooperative Association, the credit union's sponsor.
