CCU’s Seeks Volunteer Candidates For Board of Directors

Member-owned credit union offers unique opportunity to provide governance

Waukegan, IL, September 24, 2013:  There are a variety of reasons people trust credit unions to take care of their financial needs.  Perhaps the most important is simply this:  credit union Members are also owners with a voice in the governance of their financial institution.  That voice includes the opportunity to run for the credit union’s Board of Directors.  In that spirit, Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $604 Million, Waukegan IL) is accepting nominations for Members to run for its Board of Directors.

“The ability to serve on our all-volunteer Board of Directors is a privilege unique to credit unions,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President.  “Consumers Credit Union is looking for Members with an interest in guiding the future of CCU and our 58,000+ Members. Our Board consists of twelve Members from many different backgrounds, a diversity which helps assure we explore each issue from numerous points of view, with three seats on the Board up for election next Spring.”

Volunteers serving on the Board of Directors are required to attend meetings approximately once per month throughout the year.  “Our Board takes their responsibilities very seriously,” continued Rathjen.  “Their focus and insight on the operational aspects of CCU and its inner workings have helped us grow and evolve since the credit union began in 1930.  We encourage all Members to consider serving on our Board and look forward to receiving applications from many qualified Members.”

Members interested in applying to serve on CCU’s Board should send a statement of intent via e-mail to Board@myconsumers.org , or by mail to Consumers Cooperative Credit Union, Attention: Nominating Committee, 2626 N. The deadline for applying is November 1, 2013; the election scheduled to be held at the Member-owned credit union’s Annual Meeting on March 12, 2014.  Those elected to the Board will each serve three (3) year terms.
