Home of the Sparrow Opens in Mundelein

Home of the Sparrows Nest Thrift Store, 357 Townline Road, Mundelein, is now open! Sparrows Nest serves homeless women and children in Lake County.

GLMV Chamber of Commerce members, village and community leaders, and local celebrities including Mrs. Illinois International Randi Moxi, attended the Grand Opening /Ribbon Cutting event Thursday.

"We are fortunate to have so much support from so many in our communities," said Kevin Campbell, vice president of retail. "Our donors, volunteers, and customers have enabled us to evolve into a well-recognized regional chain of stores offering quality items at bargain prices."

Home of the Sparrow seeks gently used donations such as clothing, shoes, sports equipment, jewelry and accessories, tools, seasonal items, housewares and glassware, linens, bedding, gifts, toys, lawn and garden items. Free pickup of furniture or large items is available.

Volunteers are also needed to work various shifts in the store.

All net income generated from their 5 stores is used to support the agency. Home of the Sparrow operates two shelters and 19 affordable housing units, and it has recently begun a rapid rehousing program. As such, they will now be able to serve more than 220 homeless women and children this year. During the past three years, the number of homeless women and children served by Home of the Sparrow has increased by 120 percent.
