WAUKEGAN FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES REFURBISHED SMOKE TRAILER THANKS TO THE GENEROUS EFFORTS OF MIDWEST GENERATION

Recently, at Waukegan City Hall, Midwest Generation Waukegan Station Director Mark Nagel and station employees were on-hand to present Waukegan Fire Chief Ricco Farrell with a refurbished Waukegan Fire Department Smoke Trailer. The refurbished smoke trailer, used to educate children on how to exit a burning building, had been in a state of disuse ever since its roof was damaged by rain, which rotted the trailer’s wooden floors and corroded the siding. The Waukegan Fire Department did not have the money or skills to perform the needed repairs on the 15-year-old trailer. Thanks to the generosity of Midwest Generation and almost one dozen employees (trained in carpentry, electrical repairs, etc.), the smoke trailer now boasts new carpeting, wheels, tires, siding and cabinetry. In addition, all electrical wiring and lighting repairs were performed as needed.
“The Waukegan Fire Department is so grateful and proud that we have a business like Midwest Generation in our town that is willing to give back to our city. Rendering such kindness and generosity is an act that shows one cares about their community, said Ricco Farrell, Fire Chief Waukegan Fire Department. “On behalf of the Waukegan Fire Department, I’d like to personally thank the administration and technicians of Midwest Generation that made this reconstruction happen, it couldn’t have been done without you. Thank you very much!” Ricco added.
Members of the Waukegan City Council were invited to the showcase of the trailer, which took over 500 hours and more than eight weeks to repair. The volunteer efforts by Midwest Generation and its employees have breathed new life into a trailer which, over the years, has been used to teach the children of Waukegan valuable fire safety lessons.
