Copeland Manor School Principal Reads at the Library

Principal Youngman of Copeland Manor School in Libertyville read to students at the Cook Park Public Library on March 13, 2012.

Last Tuesday night, Copeland Manor students listened to Principal Erik Youngman read stories as part of the Cook Memorial Public Library District’s Principals Read program. Mr. Youngman allowed the students to choose the stories by voting on a selection of books that are among the principal’s favorite read-alouds for his own family.

The children selected Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andrae, in which Gerald the Giraffe learns that all he needs to be a good dancer is the right music, and Our Abe Lincoln by Jim Aylesworth, a rhyming biography that Mr. Youngman sang to the tune of The Old Grey Mare. The concluding story chosen by the audience was an as-yet-unpublished tale written by Mr. Youngman; Are You RIGHTY for School? introduces children to all the helpful people they’ll meet in their school.

Upcoming sessions of Principals Read at Cook Park Library include:
Butterfield School 04/12; Rockland School 04/16; St. John’s Lutheran School
04/23; Oak Grove School grades K-4 04/26; and Adler School 05/03. For more
