Updated: ComEd - Most Lake County Power Restored by Friday

ComEd's northern boundary still has 190,000 homes without power.

More than 151,000 customers remained without power in Lake County Tuesday morning, according an electronic communication from Lake County government quoting to ComEd officials.

According to the County email, ComEd expects to have power restored to 90 percent of its North Region, including Lake County, by noon Friday (July 15), and that power should be restored to 99 percent of customers by late Sunday afternoon (July 17).

Some areas could come back online significantly sooner, however, depending on the level of damage in various areas.

Updated at 2 p.m. There are still 330,000 ComEd customers without power in Northern Illinois. The north boundary, which was hit the hardest, still has 190,000 homes that don't have power as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A ComEd spokesman said it "could take days" to restore power.

The western suburbs have 68,000 homes without power, the south with 25,000 homes and Chicago has 48,000 powerless homes.

Since the outage first began yesterday morning, ComEd has restored power to 517,000 customers.

As of 7 a.m. July 12, the company has restored power to nearly 400,000 customers. 367,000 are still without electricity. In the north region 205,000 customers are still waiting for the lights to be turned back on. At the peak of the outages, the north region had 298,000 customers without electricity. 

A ComEd spokesperson said they are working diligently to get the problem fixed, but it could take days before everyone's power is back on. 

"We do have 900 crews in the field, and that includes assistance from other utility crews from Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and southern Illinois," the spokesperson said.
