FEMA Blogs On How To Stay Safe In A Thunderstorm
The sound of thunder means danger of a lightning strike.
Severe thunderstorms have left the area for today, but Chicago area residents can be certain there will be more storms this summer. The Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) issued a blog telling readers how to stay safe in a thunderstorm.
FEMA public affairs says if you hear thunder, even a distant crack, you’re already in danger of lightning striking.

- Have a thunderstorm safety plan;
- Do not use corded phones during a storm;
- Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes after the last thunder clap.
