Why go? On every first Friday of the month, there is a party going on downtown. Be entertained while you shop. Some of the featured forms of entertainment are a jazz band, a classical guitarist, an art exhibit, a balloon artist and hor d'oeuvres. Why go? Sponsored by the Libertyville Junior Women's Club. Parents enjoy a night out at First Friday, while their children enjoy crafts, stories, games and a short art lesson. To register, email mailto:lkcleveland21@gmail.com. Potty-trained children only.

Pricing: $10 for the first child; $5 for each additional child.

Where/when: Shear Paradise Pet Salon, 400 N Seymour, Mundelein; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7.

Why go? Bring your dog in for some pampering and help Our House of Hope K-9 Rescue's medical fund. Appointments are not required. All dogs' vaccines must be up to date. Therapy dogs and dogs available for adoption will be at the salon.

Pricing: $10 for a nail trim; $25 for a nail trim and bath.
