Here are our suggestions for some fun things to do with your kids this weekend.

Why Go?: Kids and parents are invited to bring their imaginations to the library to make a craft together. All supplies are provided. Stay and read a good book together.

Where / When:Half Day Forest Preserve, Vernon Hills; 10 - 11 a.m., Sunday, March 27.

Why Go?: Learn indentification tips and ways we benefit from the trees that live in our forest preserves.

Pricing: $5 for adults, $3 for children if Lake County residents; $7 for adults and $3 for children if non-residents

Where / When: Ryerson Woods Welcome Center, 21950 N. Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods; 1 - 3:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 26.

Why Go?: Learn how to monitor most breeding birds by their sounds and appearance during this family event led by members of the Bird Conservation Network.

Pricing: Free

Where / When: , Gymnasium, Building M, 1200 W. Algonquin Rd., Palatine; 8 a.m., Sunday, March 27.

Why Go?: Watch highly competitive athletes in action during this all day Illinois Shotokan Karate Club tournament.

Pricing: $5 for adults; $3 for children 5 - 14; $3 for seniors 65 and older; free for children 4 and under.

Where / When: Middlefork Savanna, Lake Forest; Rollins Savanna, Grayslake; Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods; 9 a.m., Saturday, March 26.

Why Go?: Bring your work gloves and come out to join other volunteers in saving some of Lake County's natural areas. Spend some time outdoors with your kids and make a meaningful contribution. All ages are welcome.
