LHS Graduate Lisa Stebic Still Missing, 5 Years Later

Lisa Ruttenberg Stebic, the mother of two children and a 1987 LHS graduate, disappeared from Plainfield five years ago today.

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the day Libertyville native Lisa Ruttenberg Stebic went missing.

Stebic, a mother of two young children, would have been 42 years old.  Five years ago, the Plainfield resident disappeared from her home, mysteriously, according to  the Chicago Sun-Times.  She was in the midst of a divorce from her husband Craig Stebic at the time. The case is still unsolved.

She was a 1987 graduate of Libertyville High School, according to a 2007 article in the Daily Herald.

At the time, her husband told the police he was working in the backyard and their children walked to the store for candy, while Lisa went to go work out.  Craig Stebic was named a person of interest in the case, but he was never charged, according to NBC Chicago.

Lisa’s older sister Debbie Ruttenberg said the family has not received due justice.

“It never gets any better- it’s actually worse than any movie or program. Every moment Lisa is missed,” Debbie Ruttenberg said in a statement on the Find Lisa Stebic website.

The missing person case has received national attention and was featured on an episode of America's Most Wanted.

The case was profiled on "Nancy Grace: America's Missing" in March 2011, but produced no new leads in the case.

Plainfield Police are using the anniversary as an opportunity to publicly ask once again for information leading to the woman's location, according to NBC Chicago.

A $75,000 reward for information leading to Lisa’s location is still available. If it is not claimed, it will go into a college fund for Lisa’s children, according to the Sun Times.
